"HEAR my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy… So will I sing praise unto Thy name forever." ~Psalm 62:1-3, 8a
For the last year and a half, I have been attached to a certain small Bible. Recently, I began switching off with a larger print Bible that my husband gave me in 2000. I found some post-it-notes within it. I like to underline verses that are meaningful to me, but I do not like to highlight or write in too many words in small margins. I like my Bible to be neat to prevent distraction. Amusingly, as I type this post, my Bible is opened to Psalm 61 where the page has been scribbled with red ink – no doubt, by a precious child of mine. One of my post-it-notes had Psalm 61:2-3 written on it which probably meant I thought it would be good to memorize those verses and/or put them to music someday. So… I am glad God has given me a tune for these verses.
Another interesting instance happened after posting these verses as my facebook status. Not knowing that I was arranging music for these verses, a couple of ladies wrote me that they remembered singing these verses in college, and how they were blessed to be reminded of the song. I cannot remember these verses put to music, but I am anxious to learn how the college tune went. It is neat how God encourages us even in little matters that no one else could orchestrate.
Surely, most can relate to being overwhelmed. I go there. I am there. I mustn't stay there. I must go to the Rock of my salvation. Daily. Hourly. He never changes. He is strong. God is my refuge.
Because He is Almighty… because HE loves ME, I can sing praise to Him all my days. This is my heart's desire – even when I am overwhelmed.
