On “String Cheese”

My thoughts upon hearing the current song “String Cheese” are penned. Have you heard the song written by Heather Harper? What was your response? I’m thinking it may evoke a deeper reaction by us moms whose children no longer need help opening string cheese… or whose children are grown with their own refrigerators…

An adult son sent me the song; I couldn’t believe those relatable thoughts were crafted into a song.. I listened several times to “ String Cheese” … and ugly cried. I took lots of pictures back then because I didn’t want to forget the ordinary days with them - I knew they’d grow up. And yes, I miss the days I had with my little people. And yes, I welcome visits with respect to their own livelihoods and families.

A daughter-in-love posted my grandgirl twirling in her dress - holding her favorite string cheese, …and I cried. How sweet the design of our amazing Creator to give the joy of loving littles again ~ our grandchildren. It’s not the same ~ it’s doubly good because you also get to see your own children delighting in their children and in nieces (and nephews). 🩷🩷🩷🩷
The teen son brought me a string cheese tonight (that I still buy for them because none of us are ever too old for string cheese) and asked, “Hey Mom, will you open my string cheese for me?”
I said, “No, because if I open your string cheese, I’ll eat it!” I proceeded to open it, and he said, “No you won’t!” as he snatched it and ran! The teen years have challenging moments for sure, but teens are such fun and have interesting perspectives to offer. My children have taught me much as we’ve walked through life together.
So I am thankful tonight for the people God has placed in my life to supply with string cheese… and maybe in Heaven, my place will have cows in a green pasture out one window…(and the blue-green ocean out another window.)
