Interrupted Plans

"When ours are interrupted, his are not. His plans are proceeding exactly as scheduled, moving us always (including those minutes or hours or years which seem most useless or wasted or unendurable)." - Elisabeth Elliot

In believing this statement, rest is found. Rest is not found by the resignation of our thoughts and intents, but rather rest is found in the sovereignty of our great Creator, blessed Redeemer, gentle Shepherd, and true Friend.

When we can honestly pray, "Lord, here are my heart desires; please, perform them in alignment with Thy will," then we can rest in the outcomes.

We may desire pastures green with cool water in sight, but God may draw us closer to Himself in a dry, unsightly desert.

We may desire ownership, yet God may be given His rightful place in our lives in situations beyond our control.

We may desire bygone days of youth and health, while our inner soul is more mature and vibrant than ever toward God.

We may desire to be done with pain in all of its versions, yet God sees further and reaches deeper than we can; His healing process has no timetable.

Elisabeth Elliot also said, "In acceptance lieth peace."

Acceptance is not giving up on God's purpose for my existence. Acceptance is trusting that He knows, He cares, and He is working for my good and His glory.
