Soul Comforts

“In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” -Psalm 94:19

This morning, I awoke with a “multitude of MY thoughts.” Picture a whirlwind, swirling many thoughts of the day ahead, thoughts of burdens of those I love, thoughts of my own insufficiency, thoughts of special events planned, etc…

Before my feet touched the floor, I knew the only way my soul would be relieved or comforted was to go to the God of all comfort – my God – and let Him calm the whirlwind in my heart and mind.

He has every answer for every question I have. He has the balm for every heart wound. He is the Hope that every soul craves. He is the Peace in the midst of uncertainty. He is the Way. He is the Truth. He is the Life.

“Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God, even the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all Comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.” -II Corinthians 1:2-5

When we let God comfort our souls, His Words become our delight.

“Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.” -Psalm 119:24

Just as we desire more of a favorite food that delights our taste buds, so the sweetness of God’s Word becomes a delight to our souls.

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” -Psalm 119:103
