Even a Child is Known

Proverbs 20:11 "Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right." In the land of Kindergarten, this is the "E" memory verse.

Children are born, and we discover they are their own beings. They become "known" as they are. They were created with strengths and weaknesses in different proportions as their parents have. We have the Holy Spirit to help us see these characteristics for what they are. We must teach them how to overcome the weak areas and develop the strong areas of their make up.

Our children need to see that God is interested in their life right now – not just when they get big. A song by Harold Deal is fitting:

"I Don't Have to Wait Until I'm Grown Up."

I don't have to wait until I'm grown up

To be loving and true

There are many little deeds of kindness

That each day I can do.

Chorus:

I can read my Bible and pray

Be a loving helper always.

I don't have to wait until I'm grown up

To be what Jesus wants me to be.

Every day my body is made stronger

As I eat, play and sleep

In the way I can grow more like the Savior

If His Word I will keep.

If I'm old enough to love my parents

I can know Jesus' love

I can learn to trust Him and obey Him

For He watches above.

In the verses below, we find two examples of children whom God used in His work.

Samuel – I Samuel 2:26 "And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men." Samuel helped Eli at the temple beginning at a young age. He was able to hear God's call upon his life while he was serving. Our children can be a blessing to others now.

Jesus – Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favour with God and man.” With Jesus as our perfect example, we should pray this for our children.
