"…DO DISHES! DO LAUNDRY! DO DIAPERS! DO MEALS! DO BATH TIME! DO COFFEE!"
These things I do without even thinking. Could I also say that "Every day will I DO PSALM 145?"
It is easy to do Psalm 145:2 when life is smooth, yet the help of the Holy Spirit is required to do Psalm 145:2 on hard days, in difficult seasons. A song that is precious to our family is "Even in the Valley". "Even in the valley, God is good." Even on those hard days, I must discipline myself to kneel before God and praise His name. Sometimes, I have to praise Him in faith – that He will make beauty from ashes, a rose amidst the thorns, light in my darkness. Sometimes, my faith dwindles to nothing, yet in crying to God, I can still find even a minute reminder for which to praise Him. Be it an insect, a drop of rain, or the sound of the breeze I cannot see – God is still God, and to be praised. I am adding Psalm 145:2 to my daily "to do" list.
Psalm 145:2 "Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever." Psalm 95:6 "O come, let us worship and bow down : let us kneel before the LORD our maker."
How do I bless the LORD?
In my handy dandy Strong's Concordance, the words bless and kneel have the same meaning from the Hebrew root barak (H1288) – to kneel, to bless, to salute. I should kneel my heart to the Lord each day. As I acknowledge my reverence of Almighty God and my awe of His greatness, I will not be able to contain my praise to Him! If I do this, my dependence on Him and my trust in His sovereignty will come much easier as I pour my heart out to Him.
Psalm 103:1-5 "Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all they diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destuction; Who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's…"
Even in troubled times, there are benefits and there is beauty. A friend of mine who had moved several times in life reproved me by her motto to look for beauty wherever God places you. As simple as that sounds, it really improves perspective while walking on unsettled soil or even on firm soil of rut. If we truly know the LORD and have trusted Him for our salvation, we have always the benefit of our sins forever banished from our record, along with the beauty of Heavenly hope. Above this, He blesses us so much more!
How do I praise His name?
Psalm 78:4 "We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength, and His wonderful works, that He hath done."
Praise His name personally, privately: –by passionately loving God, knowing He first loved us –by prayer – heart of thanksgiving, praying Scripture back to God –by pen – a journal, a study on His names, a study on His character –by praise song (Psalm 69:30) (Psalm 28:7) –by perusing His creation and giving Him the glory for it
Praise His name to our husbands: –by confirming our knowledge that God the Creator made us unique and brought us together as one –by conducting our role in marriage by God's order which gloriously pictures Christ and the Church –by communing with God together – asking and expecting God to overcome our weaknesses with His strength. –by considering God's leading in our journey together
Praise His name to our children: –by reading God's Word and teaching them how great God is –by resting in God – showing them our faith in God in hard times, especially –by remembering past provisions of how God brought us through –by revealing His kindnesses and His creation all through the day
How often?
–Daily. We all schedule (or fit in) time takers such as eating, dressing, going, doing, etc… How much more important should we purpose and plan to bless the LORD and praise His name in our quiet place with Him.
–Throughout the day. Psalm 34:1 "I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth."
How long?
Forever! For eternity!
I Peter 4:11 "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be prasie and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."
Who should praise Him?
— The meek. Psalm 22:26 "The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek Him: your heart shall live forever."
— Everything that hath breath. Psalm 150:6 "Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD."
