Hiding Behind the Cross

HIDE ME BEHIND THE CROSS

"Lord as I seek to serve You,

May You find in me what's pleasing to Your heart.

I leave my will at Calvary,

Taking on a nature humbled by Your scars.

For I know it's only through Your love,

That who I am is hidden by Your grace.

Let my desires be overshadowed,

As I recall the purpose of that place.

Hide me behind the cross,

Where my gains become as loss.

And only Your glory is in view.

Your power will be revealed

The more that I am concealed.

Hide me behind the cross

So the world sees only You.

If I rely on my strength

To be a source of hope for those in need,

The only profit I would gain

Would be the empty honor of my deeds.

But with all of self behind Your cross,

The splendor of Your love stands free to shine.

Illuminating with Your power,

Reaching souls so You alone are glorified.”

(Words & Music by Rebecca J. Peck & Angelina McKeithen)

This song is in my heart – "Hide Me Behind the Cross." I have a recording of this by a mens' group of Stillwater, Oklahoma that is stirring. The words are my prayer.

•Hiding behind the Cross helps others see the Cross instead of my pained self! When others look at me, do they see Christ? When others are around me, do they feel Christ?

•Hiding behind the Cross helps me see others through the eyes of Jesus. When my perspective is filtered through the Cross [of how others treat or mistreat me, of how others behave or misbehave, of how others think or speak], I can let forgiveness, love, humility, grace, mercy, kindness flow freely through the power of Christ in me.

•Hiding behind the Cross helps me remember when I first came to the Cross at salvation in my hell-bound state. The Cross full of blood and brokenness was beautiful as I gave my sin burden to Jesus, and He lovingly took it from me.

•Hiding behind the Cross protects me from the harm of Satan’s darts. Nothing aimed at me comes into my life unless it first passes by the Cross. I am His. I am loved by my Savior Jesus Christ.

Are we hiding behind the Cross? Go to the cemetery this morning, and hide yourself behind the Cross of Christ. Blessings, Jeri Lynn

9 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.

12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

17 From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.” –Galatians 6:9-18
