The Promise of New Mercies

Some days render within me a deep longing for the day to be done… for the morning to come. Do you ever have such days? I am so thankful that the LORD promises new mercies every morning. He made the evening and the morning.

One day, it was plain and simple that I needed a "redo." I allowed my physical weariness to turn my thoughts away from the goodness of God in my life. One day, my nurse skills as a mother turned into emotional weight from worrying about one son's injury at work healing properly and another son's case of poison ivy to be relieved. One day, the burdens of several sick people in our church weighed down my heart. One day, ministry seemed to take priority over everything. One day, the water company stopped by to inform us of another water leak at the parsonage. One day, close family members moving further away turned from possibility to fact. One day, my adult child needed direction, and I couldn't give it. One day, my adult child's heart was broken, and I couldn't fix it. One day, I could not keep up with life. One day, my failures won the staring match with me and wore me down to defeat. One day, my dreams all but died. Yet, His mercies are new every morning.

A good night's rest and morning light bring reminders of His mercies. Whatever your days bring you this week, remember new mercies await you in the morning.

"O LORD, be gracious uto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble." – Isaiah 33:2

"This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." – Lamentations 3:21-23
