"Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." – I Thessalonians 5:24
God is faithful. A faithful person is one who can be trusted and relied on. When we are confident in God and His choices for us, we have realized His faithfulness in all things.
"Called" means to be told or to be named. God calls us to be with Him, and He assigns unique tasks for each of us in this life. God has given us names – proper and common. What are your names?
My proper name given to me at birth is Jeri Lynn. When I trusted Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior, I gained other proper names: Child of God, Christian, Daughter of the King, Joint-Heir with Christ. Before I am anything else, I am these "proper names." When I married my husband Matt, I gained another proper name ~ Wilkerson.
Some of my common names would include daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, musician, teacher, writer, etc… These common names could be further described, but I won't bore you with all of my life details (at this time, anyway.) For each of the common names of mine, there are several required tasks. With these tasks come emotions, desires, disciplines, changes, etc… What did He call you to do?
Usually, this is where life seems to spin out of control when I'm only thinking on the tasks that came with what God called me to do. To stop the merry-go-round internally, I must go back to my roots – who I really am – who God made me to be. I am a Child of God. I am a Christian. I am a Daughter of the King. I am a Joint-Heir with Jesus Christ.
If I were not called friend, wife, mother, musician, teacher, writer…
If I miserably fail in carrying out the tasks of my names…
If no one acknowledges or appreciates my names…
If my names are way different than the names of others…
If I lose the ability to perform the responsibilities of my names…
I am still called by His Name – I am His.
